James Clear is the finest person to learn about habit formation from. He wrote one of the best books, "Atomic Habits," which everyone should read.
Here is the link to know how a habit works and how you can change it

To give you a quick overview:
Explain to yourself why you want to develop this habit and how it will benefit you
Let everyone in your immediate circle know about your new habit so they can support you in maintaining it
Start with simple, enduring behaviours. Avoid setting ambitious goals that you won't be able to meet
Regularly increase your habit by 1%. It's time to break your habit when it becomes too strong and overwhelming. Create the habit in smaller doses
If you leave the track, get back on it immediately once you realise
Patience is important to sustain a good habit. Take it at your own pace
If you stray from the path, go back on it as soon as you realise it. It takes patience to keep a good habit going. Go at your own speed.
You have the “Habit Tracker” - printable guide attached. Print the tracker and stick it somewhere you spend a lot of time
A simple “Tick” and “Cross” for each habit will make you release how committed you are at the end of the day.
